　５.大会開催の目的と意義
　ニワトリを材料として研究している研究者が集い、研究の発表と交流をする大会で、第一回の大会はニワトリのゲノム解読の開始を記念し、英国で開催され、第2回はゲノムの解読を記念し、2004年に米国・カンザスシティのStowers研究所で開催され、第5回大会は2007年にスペインのバルセロナで開催されました。第6回大会を2011年夏に仙台で開催すべく国内の組織委員会、国際組織委員会を組織し、大会の準備をしていましたが、東日本大震災のためやむを得ず2012年に延期し、名古屋に場所を移して開催することになりました。2011年には急遽9月にエジンバラでゲノムに特化した大会を開催しましたので、名古屋での大会を第7会大会として開催いたします。
　大会では発生生物学、ゲノム科学、免疫学、神経科学、畜産・育種まで含めた幅広い学者が世界中から集まる予定になっています。ニワトリ胚は組織の操作が行いやすいことから、発生生物学のモデル動物として用いられてきましたが、遺伝子操作技術のおくれから、マウス等に取って代わられようとしていました。しかし、エレクトロポレーションという日本発の新しいテクニックにより、今や目的とする遺伝子を、目的とする組織で、目的とする時期に強制発現させたり阻害したりすることができるようになり、再度脚光を浴びています。一方畜産・育種の分野でも名古屋大学でのニワトリ系統のコレクションがあり、これをもとに名古屋大学に鳥類バイオサイエンス研究センターが設立されています。広島大学の日本鶏資源開発プロジェクト研究センターでは、日本産鶏の保護、保存につとめております。ニワトリのゲノムプロジェクトは2004年に終了し、本大会では、ポストゲノム研究の成果も期待されています。このような事情を反映して、多数の国から国際組織委員会への参加を頂いており、世界中からの多数の参加者が見込まれております。鳥類関係の研究をされている方々の多数の参加をお待ちしています。

永井理事よりバンクーバーで開催される17th International Congress on Animal Reproduction (ICAR) について情報をいただきましたので、ご案内いたします。

The Local Organizing Committee of ICAR 2012 cordially invites you to the 17th International Congress on Animal Reproduction (ICAR)
to be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on July 29 – Aug. 2, 2012.

An exciting scientific program, including 4 plenary sessions, 12 symposia, 18 workshops and 5 satellite symposia on reproduction
in domestic and wild animal species has been assembled. With contributions from both young and established colleagues from around
the world, the scientific program will make ICAR 2012 one of the most memorable events in our history.

Canada is a country which enjoys the advantages of large cosmopolitan urban amenities as well as vast expanses of sparsely
populated agricultural land and unspoiled natural regions. Vancouver, British Columbia, offers the best of both. Vancouver, a
major port on the northern Pacific Rim, is one of Canada’s largest and most vibrant cities with excellent access from everywhere
in the world. Vancouver has hosted some of the world’s largest and most prestigious events, including the 2010 Winter Olympic
