Award

At the 98th annual meeting of the Japanese Society of Animal Reproduction, held in Shizuoka, Japan in September, the 2005 JSAR awards were presented to each winner.

JSAR Outstanding Research Award

The JSAR Outstanding Research Award is given for outstanding basic and applied research in animal reproduction. The JSAR Award Committee has selected the following member as the winner in 2005: Atsuo Ogura (Bioresource Engineering Division, Bioresource Center, RIKEN) for "Microinsemination and Nuclear Transfer using Male Germ Cells".

JSAR Innovative Technology Award

The JSAR Innovative Technology Award is given for the research which contributed to a development of innovative technology in animal reproduction. The JSAR Award Committee has selected the following two members as the winners in 2005: Jun-ichi Todoroki (Kimotsuki Livestock Hygiene Service Center) for "Formation of Follicular Cysts in Cattle and Therapeutic Effects of Controlled Internal Drug Release", and Toshitaka Horiuchi (Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences, Prefectural University of Hiroshima) for "Application Study of Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection for Golden Hamster and Cattle Production".

JSAR Young Investigator Award

The JSAR Young Investigator Award is given for outstanding research in animal reproduction which was performed by an exceptionally promising young investigator who has not reached the age of 35 before April 1st of the year when the award is presented. The JSAR Award Committee has selected the following three members as the winners in 2005: Yasuo Nambo (Equine Science Division, Hidaka Training and Research Center, Japan Racing Association) for "Specific Mechanisms of Folliculogenesis and Ovulations in Mares", Takashi Shimizu (Graduate School of Animal and Food Hygiene, Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine) for "Promotion of Ovarian Follicular Development by Injecting Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) and Growth Differentiation Factor-9 (GDF-9) Genes", and Kimiko Inoue (Bioresource Engineering Division, Bioresource Center, RIKEN) for "Production of Mice by Nuclear/Cytoplasmic Transfer and Their Characterization".

JSAR Outstanding Presentation Award

The JSAR Outstanding Presentation Award is given for outstanding oral and poster presentations at the annual fall meeting of JSAR. Chair of the 98th annual meeting of JSAR selected the following two members as the winners in 2005: Tomoyuki Okutsu (oral presentation) (Laboratory of Fish Physiology, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology) for "Production of Salmon that Generates Only Trout Offspring: Use of Sterilized Triploid as a Recipient", and Koumei Shirasuna (poster presentation) (Graduate School of Animal and Food Hygiene, Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine) for "PGF Acutely Stimulates the Expression of Nitric Oxide Synthase in Endothelial Cells Cultured with Luteinized Granulosa Cells and Smooth Muscle Cells: A Possible Role of Nitric Oxide in the Increase of Blood Flow Surrounding the Corpus Luteum as a Starting Signal of Luteolysis".
